Children aged 6 - 17 can enrol at any one of the junior
cricket clubs in the metro area and country WA. For further

or your local Regional Cricket Officer (country).
How does my child get identified
for district junior cricket?
Your zoned district club have junior coordinators who
are responsible for ensuring talent identification of
community club players occurs within their recruiting
area. Community clubs are asked to nominate players who
they think have potential to represent their district.
Most district clubs conduct trials during the off season.
Players can represent their district club from U13 age
level. Your community club will have the contact of your
district junior coordinator. How
is my son identified for the Emerging Warrior Program
(EWP)/zone carnivals?
WACA Cricket Officers' work on a weekly basis with district
clubs, attending training sessions and viewing district
junior cricket. They also work with PSA schools and
education department cricket schools. In conjunction
with the junior district coaches and coordinators, players
are selected to be involved in WACA programs. A copy
of the EWP selection policy is enclosed in this booklet. Does
zoning apply to WACA district cricket?
Zoning does apply at junior levels however rules are flexible
given individual considerations. Can
my son be included in the EWP in future seasons if he
does not make the U14 entry level?
Absolutely. Players can be selected and deleted from the
program at any stage subject to
the EWP selection policy. How
does my child get selected for state 17s / 19s?
Players are selected from their performances at District
club level and PSA /school. Players from the country
are identified by Regional Cricket Officers. Carnivals
are also held by the WACA each year to assist with this
process. The state U16 carnival is held in January each
year involving 4 metro teams and 2 country teams. Regional
Cricket Officers select 2 country teams based upon performances
in country competitions and junior country week. Players
are selected in initial squads of approx. 20 players
each during April /May who train over the winter months
with WACA Coaching staff and specialist coaches. Players
can be added and deleted at any time subject to WACA
selection policy. 13 players are selected in the U17
State team and 14 in the U19 State team.
Can
my child play for the Retravision Warriors/Western Fury
if not selected in 17s / 19s?
Being selected for State U17/U19 teams is no guarantee
of representing the Warriors or Fury. There are current
Warrior/Fury players who did not represent their state
at junior age level due to these players being late developers.
All sports around the world have players in this category. |
