School
and Community
Cricket Pathway
Have A Go
A modified version of cricket where girls and boys
(5 - 10 years) learn the skills of cricket with an
emphasis on skill development, games and enjoyment.
Modified Mixed Junior Cricket
Generally under 10 to under 12 age. Rules modified
to ensure all players have the opportunity to bat,
bowl and field (eg Super 8s). Super 8 centres operate
across the metropolitan area. A girls only U13 competition
is currently in development and running in the North
East Zone.
Western Fury Shield
Girls’ Super 8’s carnivals played over
one day, between Primary schools for year 5 - 7 students.
(Girls can also play in mixed formats of this competition,
generally referred to as the Retravision Warriors Shield.
Participation based format, operating across the metropolitan
and regional areas in WA.
Community Club Junior Cricket
Ideally, specific competitions for girls should be
available at a variety of age groups to allow for participation
through to senior cricket. Currently there are female
specific competitions at U15 and U17 level. In regions
where established structures for girls are not currently
available, the WACA and Cricket Australia recommend:
- Separate
girls’ competitions are developed to reduce the
gaps in the pathway to senior level. • Girls’ teams
play in a traditional boys competition (after under
12) two years above the competition age limit where
ability dictates (eg Under 16 girls’ team to
play in Under 14 boys competition).
- Individual
girls play in traditional boys’ team (after
under 12) two years above the competition age limit
where ability dictates (eg 16 year old girl may play
in Under 14 boys competition).
Milo Shield
Super 8’s format played among secondary schools
as one day carnivals. A year 8/9 and year 10 competition
is available to girls. Participation based.
SunSmart Secondary Schools Cricket
Competition
Provides a girls’ Super 8 division. Played between
schools in a one day carnival with a final held between
the top two schools on a separate day.
SunSmart Girls Cricket Competition
(15s & 17s Divisions)
A dedicated girls competition played in quarters format.
Standard cricket rules are played with some modified
rules applied to ensure participation and enjoyment.
Operates in the metropolitan area and caters for 15s
and 17s age divisions.
Community Club Cricket

the metropolitan area.
