The WACA Player Development Pathway has been ratified
by the State Cricket Committee.
At the commencement
of the pathway is "Have A
Go" cricket. This forms the entry level for participation
into cricket. Players then graduate into their local
community club cricket.
School programs including "Milo Shield, Warrior/Fury
carnivals and the SunSmart secondary schools competition" are
available to all students. Cricket is also played between
the seven PSA (Public Schools Association) schools
from year 8.
Talented cricketers are then identified
from the community clubs by their District club at
the U13 age level. Most players selected in Junior
district teams choose to keep playing with their community
club also. This occurs up until U17 age level.
Junior
district players are selected by WACA Cricket Officers
in conjunction with their district club to participate
in the Emerging Warrior Program. Two country teams
participate in the U16 State Carnival under the guidance
of the Regional Cricket Officers'.
The right side of
the pathway highlights the additional development opportunities
available to players who display the ability and desire
to fulfil their potential and achieve the ultimate
goal of representing their state.
Players can move
between the community and advanced pathway at any stage
of their development due to players developing/ maturing
at different ages. Player identification and opportunities
have been greatly enhanced at the junior level with
the appointment of WACA Cricket Officers and a closer
working relationship with the WACA District Clubs.
The
goal of the development pathway is to ensure all players
are aware of the opportunities available to them. Realistically,
not all players will graduate to State representation
however all players / participants can have many rewarding
years involved in the game of cricket. |
