One of the WACA’s goals is to assist the development
of Indigenous cricket. It is recognised that specific
programs are required to help make this happen.
Traditional programs have not resulted in increased participation.
The driving force behind this development is the WA Aboriginal
Cricket Council (WAACC).

Avonvale Cricket Academy
Avonvale Academy is a cricket program where primary school
aged students can participate in cricket teams in an
after-school program. The program nominates two Under-13’s
teams in the Northam Junior Cricket Association.
Coaching
is coordinated by Andrew Vallance and includes coaching
support from Jermaine Davis and Bevan Bennell. Volunteer
Deb Franks provides breakfast for players each Saturday.
The program was initiated by WA Aboriginal Cricket Council
member Mark Davis, a long time Northam resident who was
passionate to get young students playing cricket.
Whilst the program targets Aboriginal youth, non-indigenous
students and students from neighbouring schools are welcome
into the program.
