Secondary Schools Competition

Competition Outlines
The SECONDARY SCHOOLS’ CRICKET COMPETITION is WA’s premier schools cricket competition open to all secondary school aged children, and is conducted by the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) together with the Western Australian Schools’ Cricket Council (WASCC).

The competition’s purpose is to provide WA Secondary School Students with an opportunity to participate in formats of cricket suited to all levels of ability. It is also designed to encourage schools to foster in their student's ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty and strength of application, as well as identify and consolidate a strong sense of loyalty to the school and a strong school spirit for players, students, staff, parents and the general community.

The competition is divided into four main competing groups of competition:

  • KIM HUGHES SHIELD (Top Tier Limited Overs, Term 1)
  • GRAEME WOOD SHIELD (Second Tier Twenty20, Term 1)
  • SUPER 8's CRICKET COMPETITION for boys and girls (Year 10-12 in Term 1)
  • MILO in2CRICKET SUPER 8'S CRICKET COMPETITION for boys and girls (Year 8-9 in Term 4)

The Kim Hughes Shield honours the only Western Australian born Australian Test Captain with a limited over competition contested by both metropolitan and regional schools in the South West corner of the state. The states top cricket schools annually take part in the competition in Term One.

The Graeme Wood Shield sees a large number of metropolitan and regional schools compete in a popular Twenty20 Competition in honour of the prolific former Test opener. Since it's inception in 2004, no school has dominated making this competition one of the most exciting on the School Cricket Calendar.

The Semi-Final and Finals are hosed by the Western Australian Cricket Association in March. Details will be published on this website closer to the time.

The Geoff Marsh Shield and Peta Verco Shield are the prized rewards for the Open-Age Super 8's Competitions run by the WACA for Boys and Girls respectively. These competitions are proving to be very popular for schools looking for a fast exciting day of competitive modified cricket.

Milo in2CRICKET Year 8/9 Super 8's Competition Days are also held annually in Term 4. These days provide an opportunity for Year 8 and 9 teams to compete in three Super 8's matches against other local schools.
