In 2005
the Southern Stars (Australian Women's Cricket
Team) won the World Cup – the fifth
time they have claimed the trophy. In July 2007
the Southern Stars played a series in Darwin,
beating arch rivals New Zealand 3-2 to retain the
RoseBowl, and in 2008 the girls will be taking
on the ultimate nemesis, the Poms, to regain the
Ashes!
This team is made up of girls from around Australia
who play for their home states in the Womens National
Cricket League, and all these girls started their
love for cricket in the backyard, at the beach,
in school teams and at female clubs. Some
even played in boys teams as the only girl and
they loved it!!
Today in WA there are even more chances for girls
to play cricket - where do you want to play?
