The Lord’s Taverners XI have claimed the President’s Cup for the second consecutive year, winning over the Governor’s XI by six wickets at the WACA Ground overnight.
Lords Taverners XI Triumph For Second Season
The annual T20 fixture is an important date on the cricket calendar, with players selected from a broad cross-section of key WA Cricket stakeholders, WA Cricket Foundation programs and the wider cricketing community.
The fixture is proudly supported by the WA Cricket Foundation and Lord’s Taverners WA, a charitable organisation assisting members of the community who struggle to access resources to play sport and related endeavours.
Skippered by Perth Scorchers all-rounder Lisa Griffith, the Lord’s Taverners XI chased down the Governor’s XI total of 122 in the 15th over before batting the remainder of the 20 overs in a heartening display of the spirit of cricket.
WA Aboriginal Women’s star Charlotte Toohey dominated with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 47 from 27 balls.
While WA Aboriginal Women’s skipper Veronica Keen was the best of the bowlers, removing WA Hard of Hearing stalwart Clint Fuller and Team Connect player Mikayla Drage to finish with 2-13.
The Governor’s XI side was captained by WA Men’s batter Teague Wyllie, and standout performances included former Perth Scorchers Culture Cup champion and Bentley Cricket Club player Umar Dilshad with 18 from just six deliveries.
The triumphant side was congratulated by His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC AMP, Governor of Western Australia and Lord's Taverners WA Chairman Murray McGill.
