Wolverhampton Wanderers touch down in Perth in the early hours of tomorrow morning for their pre-season tour of Australia ahead of the 2009-10 Barclays Premier League season.
Wolves are scheduled to hold their first practice session at the WACA Ground tomorrow afternoon and will use the home of cricket in WA as their training base for the duration of their ten-day stay.
The 2008-09 Coca-Cola Championship victors will play two matches whilst in Perth – against Perth Glory on Friday 10 July and North Queensland Fury on Wednesday 15 July. Both games will be held at Members Equity Stadium.
Wolves have signed six players for their return to top flight football – Marcus Hahnemann (Reading), Kevin Doyle (Reading), Andrew Surman (Southampton), Greg Halford (Sunderland), Nenad Milijas (Red Star Belgrade) and Ronald Zubar (Marseille). A seventh, ex-Celtic defender Bobo Balde, will be out to impress the Wolves' coaching staff during the trip to Perth to earn a place in the Wolves 2009-10 squad.
Hahnemann, Doyle, Surman and Halford will be arriving in Perth with the main group tomorrow morning, while Milijas, Zubar and Balde are due to fly out of the UK on Tuesday.
Wolverhampton boss, former Ireland Captain and Manager Mick McCarthy, told the club website wolves.co.uk he is looking forward to the trip.
“I've never been to Australia before, but I am told Perth is a great place,” he said.
All of the Wolves' morning and afternoon sessions will be open to the public, however the WACA Ground will be closed for the evening session on Monday 6 July for venue security reasons. Entry is through gate two by foot (there will be no public vehicle access to the WACA Ground).
