Retravision Warriors rising star Mitch Marsh has been named Captain of the Australian team for the ICC Under 19 World Cup.
Cricket Australia's Youth Selection Panel (YSP) today announced the final squad for the tournament, which will be held in New Zealand in January 2010.
Marsh and Mount Lawley batsman Tom Beaton are Western Australia's two representatives in the 15-player line-up.
18-year old Marsh was the youngest man to ever play in Australia's one-day domestic competition when he lined up for his first Ford Ranger Cup match for the Warriors against South Australia in Bunbury last summer. He was also WA's youngest debutante for over 70 years.
His promotion to the Warriors' one-day team came a week after he broke Fremantle Cricket Club's record for the highest individual score in a Retravision Shield match, posting 208 against Gosnells, an innings which featured 26 boundaries and nine sixes, and surpassing the unbeaten 202 scored by the late Mark McPhee in 1993.
Beaton has represented WA at under-age level and enjoyed a prolific campaign at the recent National Under 19 Championships in Canberra, where he also skippered the team.
The ICC Under 19 World Cup will be held in New Zealand from 15-30 January 2010. Australia is seeded sixth and sits in Group B with South Africa, Ireland and USA.
Australia Under 19's first match is against the USA in Queenstown on 16 January. They then play Ireland the following day before finishing the group stage against South Africa on 20 January.
The Australia Under 19 World Cup squad is:
Mitchell Marsh (Capt, WA), Tim Armstrong (NSW), Tom Beaton (WA), Nicholas Buchanan (Qld), Jackson Coleman (Vic), Luke Doran (NSW), Benjamin Dougall (SA), Jason Floros (Qld), Josh Hazelwood (NSW), Alexander Keath (Vic), Nicolas Maddinson (NSW), Alister McDermott (Qld), Kane Richardson (SA), Thomas Triffitt (Tas), Adam Zampa (NSW).
