Mr Waldron fills the casual Vice President position which was left vacant by former WACA Chair Dr Lachlan Henderson who re-located interstate, while Ms Skira fills the casual Member-elected position following Kade Harvey’s recent appointment to a full-time coaching position with the Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors and Perth Scorchers men’s team.

The WACA Board undertook a thorough recruitment process prior to making these appointments, using a skills matrix to determine the skills required to supplement the current Board composition. The skills matrix, which was developed earlier in the year, identified that an understanding of government, established business networks and financial experience were current deficiencies on the Board.

Mr Waldron brings a wealth of knowledge in the sports industry to the Board, having been heavily involved in the Perth Stadium project and numerous other sports infrastructure programs during his tenure as Minister Sport & Recreation; Racing and Gaming.

The Nationals Member for Narrogin from 2001 to 2017, Mr Waldron has a strong understanding of country and regional issues, is highly respected by all political parties and is passionate about business and sport.

As a former Premier Club cricketer and a member of the WA Country Team of the Century announced in 2007, Mr Waldron is passionate about the game of cricket and determined to ensure a strong and successful future for the sport in WA.

Ms Skira joins the Board with a strong commercial and financial background and experience in strategy, board governance and financial management. She has been listed in the top 100 female directors in Australia and 100 most influential women in Australia.

With more than 20 years’ experience as a non-executive director and chair, Ms Skira has served on several business, commercial, government and not-for-profit boards across a range of industries, including former Chair of the WA Water Corporation and Westscheme and former Director of Doric and MDA National.

Ms Skira’s current roles include Chair of Trustees of St John of God Health Care Group, Director at RCR Tomlinson Ltd and Director at Macmahon Holdings. Her past executive experience includes roles with Commonwealth Bank, BZW Australia Ltd and management consulting.

WACA President and Chair Hon Dr Ken Michael AC said Mr Waldron and Ms Skira’s experience and drive would be a great asset to the Board.

“We have an exceptional group currently sitting on the WACA Board and Mr Waldron and Ms Skira will only add to this, ensuring we’re well-placed for the future,” Dr Michael said.

“To have such outstanding Members of the community join the WACA Board is testament to the work which has been undertaken to position the Association as the leading sporting body in Western Australia.

“It shows there is confidence in the wider business community in the work we are doing and the vision we have set ourselves to achieve.

“On behalf of the Board, I welcome Mr Waldron and Ms Skira and look forward to working with them both to ensure a successful future for the Association.”

Both Mr Waldron and Ms Skira will be required to nominate for re-election at the Associations AGM in September.
