A former Australian Test and Sheffield Shield cricketer, Gannon played in three Tests between 1977 to 1978 and 37 Shield matches between 1966 to 1979.
Following his career on the field, Gannon moved into the role of WACA Board Deputy Chair from 2004 to 2013 and took on the position of Chair from 2013 to 2015 before his retirement.
In the community, Gannon is a Board Member on Wally Foreman Foundation, a Committee Member at Lake Karrinyup Country Club and Chairman of the Paraplegic Benefit Fund Australia.
A successful businessman, Gannon was the co-founder and Chairman of Gannon Growden Schonell financial advisors from 1987 to 2008 and was also the founding Chairman of Shadforth Financial Group Australia from 2008 to 2011, moving into the position of Deputy Chairman from 2011 to 2014. Following this, he moved into the role of Chairman for the Western Pacific Financial Group from 2011 to 2014.
