West Coast Eagles premiership player and former WA Under 19 cricket captain Brett Jones has been appointed as the WACA's new Talent Manager.

WACA General Manager - Cricket Operations Ben Oliver says he is delighted with the appointment of Jones in the multi-faceted role aimed at getting the best out of WA talent to ultimately improve the performance of the State's elite teams .

"We are obviously very pleased to have someone of Brett's calibre joining the WACA," Oliver said.

"Brett comes with a track record of performance and leadership in elite sport along with a strong desire to achieve at the highest level.

"We look forward to him bringing his skills and experience to the Talent Manager role and leading the identification and development of successful Western Australian players into the future."

Throughout Jones' AFL career, which included the 2006 premiership and winning the Eagles' Best Clubman award in 2011, he remained heavily involved with cricket, coaching the University of WA Cricket Club, while also serving as their Vice President. Jones also has a Bachelor of Commerce and is close to completing a Masters in Business Administration.

Jones' appointment comes shortly after Justin Langer's signing as the new Warriors and Perth Scorchers coach.

"Justin coming on board was good news and his presence played a big role in me wanting to be part of the WACA," Jones said.

"I want to bring some of the knowledge I've acquired through my time playing professional sport and to develop some strong relationships back in District cricket to ensure we're all working for the same goal throughout the State and that should be to see more young WA players representing the State."

Jones said the role would include developing systems and practices to ensure talented WA cricketers reach their potential.

"We want to put in place some systems to allow us to develop talent and make sure they're getting access to the best resources," Jones said.

"West Coast had a very strong work ethic and culture within the club. I'll be looking to make sure at the WACA we're clear on what we want our cricketers to be and what we expect from our cricketers. We want that to flow through from the top."

Jones added that he had a deep passion for cricket and was desperate to see WA return to its former glory having not won any silverware since 2003-04.

"It's a sport I'm passionate about and I've always enjoyed being involved in. From that point of view I couldn't be more excited to be involved in WA becoming successful again," Jones said.
