Teenage Warriors spinner Ashton Agar's rapid rise has
continued after he was called up to travel with the Australian Test squad
during their tour of India commencing next week.
The 19-year-old, who debuted for the Warriors only last
month, will fly out for Chennai alongside several other members of the squad on
Saturday 9 February as they try to acclimatise to the conditions ahead of the
First Test on 22 February.
Agar, who is currently part of the Warriors side taking on
the XXXX Gold Queensland Bulls in the Bupa Sheffield Shield, won't miss any WA
matches. He will return to Perth on 16 February ahead of the 19 February clash
with the Tasmanian Tigers in the Ryobi One Day Cup.
The teenager won't officially be part of the Test squad, but
will be used as a net bowler and will play in a warm-up game next week.
National Selection Panel boss John Inverarity said: "He
will provide ideal practice for the batsmen in the lead-up to that first Test
in Chennai.
"Last year we took Mitchell Starc to the West Indies to
further his development and this is a similar opportunity for Ashton."
The left-arm spinner has taken five wickets in two Ryobi One
Day Cup matches, while he also claimed three wickets in his Bupa Sheffield
Shield debut against New South Wales late last month.
