South Perth have won the One Day League Colts competition
after defeating Joondalup by 34 runs at Abbett Park on Sunday.
Sky Blues leg spinner Matt Chave was named Man of the Match
after taking 4-18 as Joondalup were bowled out for 165, in reply to South Perth's
modest 8-199 from their 50 overs.
South Perth captain Jackson Davey won the toss and elected
to bat but they lost WA Under 19s talent Tom Leaver for 23 early on.
Warriors all-rounder Hilton Cartwright also departed for 24,
leaving to Nicholas Mitchell to guide them almost to 200, with an unbeaten 36.
In reply, Joondalup had a quick start but lost early wickets
and when top scorer Garrick Morgan was dismisssed for 68, fresh from a century
in the WADCCI First Grade competition last round, their hopes soon faded.
Chave got the key wicket of Morgan and he wrapped up the
innings after Blake Reed had earlier taken 2-23 with Cartwright and Simon
Ringrose also chipping in with important breakthroughs. |
