Fury's 2017-18 WNCL Fixture List Released
10 May 2017

The Alcohol.Think Again Western Fury have learned their schedule for the upcoming season following today’s release of the 2017-18 Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) fixture list.

Entering its 22nd season, the WNCL will be played over three weekend rounds commencing on 6 October, 25 November and 16 February, culminating in the final on 24 February.

The first round will be played before the Commonwealth Bank Ashes Series, followed by a round before Rebel WBBL|03 and then a final round after the WBBL.

The separation provides Australia’s elite women cricketers with the best preparation ahead of their key international schedules for the season. It also better mirrors the break-up of the Sheffield Shield schedule.

The Fury, who finished bottom of the WNCL ladder last season, will begin their season in South Australia against the SA Scorpions and the Tasmanian Roar in early October.

Lisa Keightley’s side will host the NSW Breakers and ACT Meteors in WA in late November, before finishing off the regular season in Queensland against the Fire and VicSpirit in February.

For the first time prize money will be introduced for the WNCL of $258,000, whilst CA’s ground-breaking remuneration proposal would see Australia’s best domestic cricketers, playing both WNCL and WBBL, receive an average remuneration of $52,000 this year.

Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager – Team Performance, Pat Howard, said: "This will be the 22nd season of the Women’s National Cricket League, and the tournament has a strong history of producing world-class talent as well as attracting high-profile international players.

"It continues to provide a platform for Australia’s finest young cricketers to further develop their skills and strive for national selection.

"We know we have a strong structure to our domestic competitions which identifies and elevates players who are performing, so that we can continue to strive for success on the international stage and ensure our players are provided with the very best opportunities to perform to their ability here at home and away.

"Cricket has led the way in showing that women too can make a living from the game, with the proposed remuneration providing the country’s best domestic players the opportunity to earn a full-time wage for the first time."

All venues for the 2017-18 WNCL season are to be confirmed.
