Turf Department
The four members of the WACA Turf Department are responsible for the maintenance and preparation of the main arena, practice facilities and gardens at the WACA.

The main arena wicket block consists of 10 pitches, with each pitch being 3m wide x 28m long. The soil comes from properties around Waroona, a town south of Perth, and its clay content is between 70-80%.

Seven pitches on the main wicket block have the Santa Anna grass species, with the remaining three being WACA couch. The wicket block is watered with three soaker hoses to ensure an even coverage with a fine spray.

The outfield was originally planted with greenlees park couch during 1985 when the playing surface was reconstructed. Since then other couch species have crept into the outfield. Programmed reticulation with Toro 640 sprinklers water the outfield with bore water.

The practice area consists of 41 pitches and is utilised by the Retravision Warriors and other State representative sides. The Australian Test and One day sides, along with the visiting International sides, also use the facilities when visiting Perth.
