Winners were selected from more than 240 nominations across 14 award categories.

Leon Ottobrino from Swan View Cricket Club and Wembley Districts Junior Cricket Club’s Margie Oldfield both took out the Volunteer of the Year award.

Leon was the driving force in establishing Swan View’s first ever women’s team to compete in the Perth Scorchers Women’s League and also helped grow the club’s junior participation numbers through the club’s relationship with its local school community.

Margie has played a pivotal role in developing Wembley Districts’ community partnerships, including but not limited to, Autism Association of WA, Town of Cambridge and Inclusion Solutions to help build a sustainable pathway for the club’s players and families.

In the country, the awards went to Towns Cricket Club volunteer Gerard Marquis and Christy Reed from the West Pilbara Junior Cricket Association.

The Young Volunteer of the Year award went to Rosie Manning from Bassendean Junior Cricket Club for her dedication in the promotion of girls and women’s cricket at the club.

WACA Community Cricket General Manager Jo Davies said volunteers are vital to nuturing a love of the game at the grassroots level, as well as developing the next wave of elite cricketers.

“Congratulations to every finalist and award winner of this year’s WA Community Cricket Awards, the things you have achieved in your local cricket community doesn’t go unnoticed and we appreciate all you have done to help grow the game we love,” she said.

“These awards are all about celebrating the achievements of community cricket and acknowledging the dedication of our volunteers who are an inspiration and a key reason why our game holds a special place in many communities across the State.

“It’s exciting to know we have so many dedicated people driving innovation, and positive change within their local cricket clubs to help make our sport safe, fun and inclusive for all.

“Now, more than ever, it is important to share these inspiring stories to help us stay united and looking forward to a great 2020-21 season ahead.”
