Mrs Read becomes the sixth person to be named a Spartan Club Legend, following more than 65 years of service at the Club.

Mrs Read joined the Club in 1955 and was inducted as a Life Member in 1974, the Club’s first woman to receive the honour.

From running the canteen to organising a variety of functions, supporting the players and opening up her home as a club house back in the day, makes her a deserving Club Legend.

Leeming Spartan Cricket Club President Peter Coombs said;

“Lydia's achievements are second to none, her warmth and kindness to everyone is truly remarkable.

“She is the most genuine and sincere person you will ever meet, Lydia epitomises what the Club is all about and we can’t congratulate her enough.

“Always humble, we are truly indebted to Lydia for her amazing service of the Spartans for the past sixty-five years. We are so proud and grateful to have her as part of our family.”

Lydia Read said she was humbled by the recognition.

“Apart from being awarded Life Membership, this was a great honour and I am truly humbled. The Club has been a big part of life for all my family.”
