Peel’s total of 269 highlighted by a sparkling century from 15-year-old Corey Wasley, led them to their first Boan Cup since 2016.

Wasley’s 157 off 148 balls was the highlight of the contest as the teenager plundered 18 boundaries and six maximums despite Albany spearhead Nathan Crudeli sparking a middle order collapse on his way to 5-64.

Albany led by opener Daniel Rees (89) appeared on track to chase the total, but his dismissal with the score at 5-153 saw Albany lose momentum as Jayden DeRosa snared 5-41 to bowl out Albany for 219 in the 58th over.

Wasley’s heroics saw him recognised with the John Rutherford Medal as Player of the Match, while Crudeli was awarded the Barry Shepherd Medal for the Player of Country Week.

A special presentation was also made to Upper Great Southern stalwart Rodney Ford who was presented with the WA Country Cricket Board Recognition Award for his services to country cricket.

As well as being the most capped player and longest serving captain for the WA Country XI, Ford has been a long servant of country cricket as a player for not only his club Williams but also for the Upper Great Southern Cricket Association and previously Williams Cricket Association.

Other winners for Senior Country Week included Esperance Cricket Association who claimed the B-section title over Peel Cricket Association, thanks to a heroic century from allrounder Chris Chellew.

Upper Great Southern triumphed in C-section over Avon, while Newman defeated North West rivals West Pilbara Cricket Association in the D-section decider.

Green Range Ongerup held off a late fightback from Peel to claim the E-section title in a thrilling end.

WACA Country Area Manager Steve Philippe said;

“This annual event made way for some highly-contested matches and incredible individual performances across the week, showcasing the depth and quality of cricket talent across our State.

“I’d like to congratulate the winners of each section, in particular Peel Cricket Association for taking out their first Boan Cup since 2016.

“I would also like to thank all volunteers, officials and staff who ensured the event ran smoothly as well as our major partner Alcohol.Think Again.”
