In a huge boost for WA’s Shield ambitions, Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Agar and Josh Philippe have all been named in the squad.

It is the first time WA Captain Marsh and explosive batter Philippe have been available this season, while Agar has been selected for the first time since returning to action following a calf injury late last year.

Having completed mandatory self-quarantine upon arrival home from the T20 International Series in New Zealand, the returning trio will bolster a batting order stacked with talent and enviable form if selected.

WA are flying after a 247-run thrashing of Victoria last week, while when the sides last met in October, skipper Shaun Marsh and opening duo Sam Whiteman and Cameron Bancroft all hit hundreds.

The equation is simple for WA heading into the final match of their Shield campaign; win and get in.

With second-placed New South Wales hosting top-of-the-table Queensland for their final fixture, the door is ajar for WA to storm into their first Sheffield Shield final since the 2014-15 season.

While a draw will not necessarily end WA’s season, it does leave their fate in the hands of what happens at Wollongong’s North Dalton Park.
