29 May 2017

WA’s Craig McSweeney, Brett Williams and John Trela have been named in Australian teams for the Trans-Tasman Masters in New Zealand, following the conclusion of the 2017 Australian Indoor Masters Championships in Canberra.

McSweeney, Williams and Trela were all part of WA’s 45 & Over Men’s team which bowed out in the preliminary final.

Trela has been named in Australia’s 50 & Over Men’s team, while McSweeney and Williams are in the 45 & Over Men’s team.

Queensland were the dominant state at the national carnival, reaching all four division grand finals and winning three.

The men in maroon claimed the 35 & Over Men, 40 & Over Men and 50 & Over Men division championships, with New South Wales edging them out in the 45 & Over division title.

WA finished fifth in both the 35 & Over and 40 & Over Men’s divisions, while they finished second on the ladder in the 45 & Over division, before losing the preliminary final to eventual winners NSW.
