WACA Ground Development
A Ground for High Performance
The high performance centre will build on Western Australia’s reputation for elite development of the game of cricket and be a complementary asset to the emerging sporting precinct in the eastern end of Perth's CBD.
During the Vision 2030 process, leading examples from around the world were assessed and confirmed strong potential for elite facilities supporting players and talent through:
- Player development and recovery
- Sports science and sports medicine
- Sports information and resources
- Coach, umpiring, administration, and curator development.
The high performance centre also presents opportunities for integration with other sporting codes to allow athletes and administrative staff access to world-class facilities.
Elite Player Facilities
Plans for the future development of the WACA Ground will see it remain the home of cricket in WA and become a world-class facility supporting players and emerging talent. The development will include new elite sporting infrastructure for players and officials, which will work collaboratively with the high performance centre and its facilities.
Upgraded facilities for players which have been identified include ICC standard player and official areas, a new state-of-the art player’s lounge and new dedicated team warm-up areas. New medical and physiotherapy areas will allow for improved match day experiences, and dedicated player facilities would see configurable changing rooms and private access for players and officials for elite athletes.
Future detailed studies will seek further input from the playing, coaching and sports administrative fraternity and support the detailed design phase and future decision-making by the WACA to deliver the upgrades for elite players and sport.
